Apple tells us why the old photos of some users resurfaced.

Apple issued a quick update to fix the data corruption issue which resulted in old photos resurfacing for some people.

Many iPhone users complained about seeing their old deleted photos back in the gallery which was attributed to a bug in the iOS 17.5 update. The company was quick to fix the issue with another patch less than a week later, which claims to have resolved the problem and taken away all the old photos. Apple did not exactly disclose what the main reason for this photos glitch was and how deleted photos resurface. The company has finally spoken on the issue and even shared some more details that could help us understand the reason for the glitch.

Old iPhone Photos Reappear: What Apple Has To Say

The company has been quoted in a report by 9to5Mac, where it explains the issue and the bug. Apple has said that the bug was caused by a corrupt database entry on the iPhone’s file system. This seems to have affected the files that were stored on the device and not linked to the photos that have been backed up to the iCloud.

The report further states these files may have been carried over from the previous iPhones used by the person, while they were restoring the data or doing the iPhone-to-iPhone transfer which is done when you get a new phone.

Deleted Photos Stay?

But the bigger question about the bug that many of us want to know from Apple is that, how can years old deleted photos show up? Apple assures that all the files are permanently deleted, especially when all the data is erased. The company has seemingly blamed the customer who missed out on the correct way to erase all the data.

Apple has also pointed out that only a small number of people faced the nightmare of rekindling their past photos, without actually giving the number. Either way, we’re glad that the company decided to speak on the issue through the media and help people feel less worried because of the recent episode.
