A north London landlord has been fined £13,500 for failing to address issues of damp and mould in four of his eight flats.

He was issued with a series of Improvement Notices under the Housing Act 2004 but failed to take action, leading the council to take tough enforcement action.

Eubert Malcolm, assistant director for stronger and safer communities, at Haringey Council, said: “This case highlights the importance of maintaining safe living conditions for all residents.

“Our incredible enforcement team are working tirelessly to ensure landlords in Haringey meet their legal obligations.

“We will continue to take robust action against those who neglect their responsibilities and enforce the law to protect tenants’ rights and wellbeing.”

The council said the owners were given every opportunity to comply within a reasonable timeframe.

They were given multiple warnings, despite the disrepair posing a risk to the inhabitants.

People can report an unlicensed or non-complaint property in the area via Haringey Council’s website.
