Unfortunately, no teachers responded to the thread. They felt like parents were supportive, kind, and respectful at every opportunity and had no suggestions for what they wish they could tell them.
Hahaha. Just kidding.
Something to note: These responses from teachers obviously don’t refer to every parent. But clearly, teachers have come across enough parents that meet these criteria that they’ve decided it’s worth saying. Take a look at what they had to say.
1. You are going to have to make your kids do things they don’t want to do.
2. Kids—including yours—lie.
3. Being hostile to a teacher doesn’t do what you think it does.
4. Their grade is already higher than they deserve.
5. Replacements for parenting don’t work.
6. There’s someone responsible for checking grades, and it’s not me.
7. You should be monitoring your kid’s cell phone usage during the day.
8. And stop texting them during class!
9. “Prepare the child for the road, not the road for the child.”
10. Yes, you did teach them to do that at home.
11. Your kids won’t value reading unless they see you reading.
12. You are harming your child by not allowing them to fail.
13. Your kids are staying up way too late.
14. Model basic manners!
