The new gaming service will let you use without a PS

Sony is rolling out a new significant feature for its PlayStation Portal called Cloud Streaming. According to The Verge, earlier the device could only stream games from your PlayStation 5 via Wi-Fi. However, as part of a new system update, now users will be able to stream select PS5 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Portfolio to their PS Portal.

Notably, the update is currently rolling out in the Beta phase and will be available for the PS Plus Premium subscribers only.

“Since Cloud Streaming (Beta) on PS Portal is still an experimental offering, the features available during the beta period may change over time and may not reflect the final experience,” Sony wrote in its blog post.

Once the update is live, the PS Portal users will be able to access 120 selected games from the PS Plus Game Catalog. These include games like Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and others.

Sony states that customers would require a minimum of 7Mbps Internet connection to stream games at 720p resolution and a minimum of 13Mbps to stream games at 1080p quality. Games may stream at up to 60fps.

However, the update comes with several restrictions too as the users will not be able to play any PS4 or PS3 games at present. Also, they won’t be able to use several PlayStation Plus features such as Game Trials, party voice chat, game invites for some games, 3D audio, as well as in-game commerce (purchasing or selling of items within a game). Child accounts will also be not able to access the Cloud Streaming feature.

The update will initially be available in countries like Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States. Indian PS Portal users will have to wait to see the Cloud Streaming feature.

The PS Portal was released last year. In India, it comes with a price tag of Rs 22,999.
