This year, one Vivah muhurat day is in June while the eight are going to be in July.
In Hinduism, it is believed that marriage should always be done according to muhurat (auspicious timings), as all the gods and goddesses would be pleased and give their blessings. So, the believers prefer to schedule marriages on the days of muhurat, which depends on the positions of the constellations and planets.
Local18 reports that this year, one muhurat day is in June while the eight are going to be in July. In June, the auspicious muhurat day is June 28 while in July, the dates are between 9 to 16. So, July 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 are muhurat dates, next month. According to reports, after these dates, the sun is expected to enter cancer, and the time will not remain favourable for matrimonial unions, for around 118 days.
In a conversation with Local18, astrologer Alok Kumar said that going by the scriptures, a lagna is expected in June, but it is not a full lagna, because of its date. So, before scheduling a marriage on June 28, you should consult experts. Furthermore, after the dates of July, the next muhurat dates are expected after four to five months, says the astrologer. He states further that after July 17, the sun will enter cancer. The marriage vows are not to be performed at night, since the veda mantras are not read during that time, the scriptures say.
During the period of Chaturmas (June to July), auspicious activities like marriage, house entry, mundan sanskar etc are not to be done. This year, the Chaturmas is from Ashadha Shukla Paksha Ekadashi Tithi till Kartik Shukla Paksha Ekadashi Tithi. As per the beliefs, Lord Vishnu is in deep slumber during this period.
